IS THE GOVERNMENT'S FUNDING ENOUGH?

There were 249 million home care hours per year being delivered in 2016, according to the UKHCA. Let’s say that has now increased to 300 million...

The government has announced that it is dedicating an extra £5.4 billion over 3 years for the whole of social care.

Let’s say half of that goes to home care (if we’re lucky) ... That would be £900m per annum, or an increase of £3 per hour.

That would be welcome. But not enough.

There are some local authorities now paying over £23 per hour, so £26 per hour is moving in the right direction.

Others however are only paying around £17 per hour – they need an uplift of at least £9.

We need to keep the pressure on.
